The Importance of Showing Up

Jerry and George

“I don't think I've ever been to an appointment in my life where I wanted the other guy to show up.” — George Costanza

I agree with George. I love when people cancel or no-show. But that’s not what this article is about.

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

— Filmmaker who will remain nameless (we’re separating the art from the artist)

You want a nice little body? Show up consistently.

Show up when you feel great. Show up when you don’t. Show up when you’re tired or cold or busy.

Showing up…

  • helps you create good habits
  • forces you to focus on the process (you can’t control the outcome)
  • gives you the opportunity to reach your goal— not showing up guarantees you won’t get there
  • puts you in a position to be in the “right place at the right time” (you never know what could happen if you show up!)

“Some days it just flows and I feel like I'm born to do this, other days it feels like I'm trudging through hell.

Every day I make the choice to show up and see what I've got, and to try and be better.

My advice: keep showing up.”

— Des Linden, 2018 Boston Marathon Winner & 2x Olympian

Don’t let your feelings or emotions control you.

Often times I don’t feel like going to the gym. But I show up anyway. Afterwards I’m always glad I went.

“A radio host once asked me how I write. I answered ‘one word at a time.’ Day in and day out. Not surprisingly, it’s that simple. It’s the secret to my success.

Your job is to make sure the muse knows where you’re going to be every day from nine ‘til noon or seven ‘til three. If he does know, I assure you that sooner or later he’ll start showing up, chomping his cigar and making his magic.”

— Stephen King

Show up. Even the smallest step is infintely better than not showing up and taking no step at all.

Show up. Something good usually happens.

Rock a Nice Little Bod

You won’t see changes in your body immediately, but you will eventually… if you keep showing up. Visual results are a lagging indicator of your daily efforts. Show up every day and trust the process.

Enjoy Life

“You know how a woman gets a man excited? She shows up. That's it. We're guys, we're easy.”
— Quinn Harris (Six Days Seven Nights)
