I EAT SUCCESS FOR BREAKFAST
(a few thoughts on success)
…with skim milk.
The internet is FILLED with quotes about success. Here’s my favorite…
“Success is doing what you want to do, when you want, where you want, with whom you want, as much as you want.” — Tony Robbins
I love this because it pushes you to define success for yourself.
What do you really want? Why?
We often think of success as getting/acquiring/reaching, but it’s just as much letting go of/getting rid of/not doing ______.
Sometimes success is not eating that fat, juicy piece of cake. Sometimes it’s eating 3 cookies and stopping before the 4th (or the entire box if you’re anything like me).
Ok, fine! I’ll only have 3!
Success doesn’t have to be some massive accomplishment. Two ideas that help me are…
1. ‘Stacking wins’
2. “So, what if, instead of thinking about solving your whole life, you just think about adding additional good things. One at a time. Just let your pile of good things grow.” — Rainbow Rowell (Attachments)
Keeping these in mind, I define success as the smallest bit of progress. That’s doing something positive or not doing something negative.
You put on your gym clothes? Win!
You made it to the gym? Win!
Warmed up? Win! Did your first rep? First set? Finished the workout? WIN! WIN! WIN!
You drove past the Chick-fil-A drive-thru and are going to cook dinner? LOSS! WIN!
Like success, weight loss [READ: fat loss] (because that’s what you really mean) isn’t a linear process. There are plateaus, setbacks, and biological reasons I don’t totally understand.
Remember what’s important: be consistent, trust the process, and limit the self-sabotage.
And remember what’s most important: what does success mean to you?
Feel Great
“How shall we measure success? It isn’t popularity, money, or critical esteem. Success occurs in the privacy of the soul… Success has nothing to do with variables outside of yourself.”
Rick Rubin (The Creative Act: A Way of Being)

Enjoy Life
“A man is a success if he gets up in the mornin' and gets to bed at night and in between he does what he wants to. What I want to do is make music.”
Bob Dylan

“Reynolds is obsessed with routine, and his workout is a key piece of it. ‘I like to write every day,’ he says. "‘I like to work out every day. I thrive with structure.’” [source: Men’s Health]
